Within the framework of implementing the state plan in Egyptian universities to confront the phenomenon of drug addiction and abuse, the university begins implementing many awareness programs for young people, including implementing a series of educational seminars covering all university faculties, daily awareness campaigns on campus target students on campus to educate students about the dangers and harms of substance abuse that affect mental health and correct misconceptions among young people about drugs, in cooperation and coordination with Drug Control Fund, under the patronage of Dr. Abdelrazek Desouky, the President, and Dr. Amany Shaker, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, and the follow-up of Dr. Amr Othman, Director of Drug Control Fund in Kafrelsheikh; Dr. Ibrahim Askar, Director General of Preventive Programs at the Fund; Mr Nafie Hamada, Director General of the General Department of Environmental Projects, and Mohammed Salah, Director of the Project Follow-up Department.
Prof. Dr. Abdelrazek Desouky, the President, confirms that there are many factors that contributed to the spread of the phenomenon of addiction in society, including the change in the social patterns and behaviors of individuals, in addition to the lack of security among children in broken families, the weakness of individuals to confront their problems and escape into addiction, as well as the lack of religious conscience among drug dealers and promoters of addictive drugs.
The president directs that support be provided to invest the energies of young university students, stressing the university’s keenness to promote the role of youth in the volunteer work system in its various dimensions and build their capabilities to enable them to participate effectively in development issues, especially awareness programs to combat drug abuse.
Dr. Amany Shaker, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, indicates that there are many themes that must be adhered to, including the teachings of educational values, in addition to instilling sound and correct principles, values and virtue among children, with an emphasis on implementing anti-drug laws, in addition to generalizing treatment centers for addicts, and trying to solve the social problems that cause addiction.
