The 2025 edition covers approximately 57 subjects, encompassing more than 20,000 disciplinary units represented by over 2,000 universities from around 92 countries worldwide, making it an important international benchmark for evaluating research excellence at the disciplinary level.
The ranking relies on nine indicators distributed across five main categories: the quality of globally distinguished staff members, high-level research output, publication quality, research impact, and international collaboration. Its methodology is based on global databases such as Web of Science and InCites, with a minimum publication threshold required for any university to be included in each subject.
