On Saturday morning, Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, accompanied by Major General Alaa Abdel Moaty, Governor of Kafrelsheikh; Prof. Abdelrazek Desouky, President of Kafrelsheikh University, and Dr. Mustafa Refaat, Secretary of the Supreme Council of Universities, inaugurate Kafrelsheikh National University. They are joined by a group of ministry, governorate, and university officials.
During the visit, the Minister inaugurates and inspectes the buildings of Kafrelsheikh National University, which consist of two academic buildings. Academic Building (A) comprises a ground floor and six upper floors, with a total area of 16,800 square meters. It includes the president’s office, a meeting room, administrative offices, 17 classrooms with a capacity of 45 students each, 13 classrooms with a capacity of 65 students each, 7 classrooms with a capacity of 120 students each, 4 lecture halls with a capacity of 350 students each, a seminar hall with a capacity of 350 students, 12 laboratories with a capacity of 50 students each, and 8 control rooms. Academic Building (B), the Lecture Halls and Electronic Testing Building, consists of a ground floor and three upper floors, with a total area of 8,400 square meters. It includes 8 lecture halls with a capacity of 350 students each, 9 classrooms with a capacity of 35 students each, 2 lecture rooms with a capacity of 60 students each, administrative offices, and electrical rooms.
Dr. Ayman Ashour confirms that the establishment of national universities enjoys significant support from the political leadership, as they are a vital educational pathway that accommodates the growing number of students, reduces the need for students to study abroad, and provides a distinguished educational experience.
The Minister confirms that the relationship between public and national universities is based on cooperation and integration. He directs that national universities must focus on achieving their objectives by offering advanced and distinguished educational experiences, providing modern interdisciplinary programs aligned with the latest international educational systems, and establishing a new administrative structure, including a Vice President for Academic Affairs, a Vice President for International Relations and Partnerships, and a Vice President for Innovation and Entrepreneurship to contribute to the university’s goals.
Major General Alaa Abdel Moaty states that Kafrelsheikh National University represents a new educational milestone in the governorate, enhancing the higher education system in Kafrelsheikh and the Delta region. He notes that the state’s plan to expand the establishment of universities helps reduce student migration, supports urban expansion, and provides the human resources needed by the governorate. He confirms the governorate’s commitment to supporting efforts to promote the education system, providing an educational environment that fosters innovation and encourages academic excellence to prepare students for the labor market.
Prof. Abdelrazek Desouky confirms that Kafrelsheikh National University was established under Presidential Decree No. 248 and comprises 13 faculties: Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Nursing, Veterinary Medicine, Engineering, Computers and Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence, Sciences, Agriculture, Languages and Humanities, Business, and Arts and Design.
The President of Kafrelsheikh University notes that study at Kafrelsheikh Private University will begin in the 2025/2026 academic year, marking a significant addition to Egypt’s national university system. He explains that this step aligns with the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research, which aims to provide university education that meets labor market needs, serves development requirements, and equips students with the knowledge and skills to compete in the labor market.
Dr. Adel Abdel Ghaffar, Media Advisor and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry, states that these national universities have been equipped with the latest educational technological tools to ensure a unique and advanced educational experience. He confirms that the diversity of university education pathways enhances the quality of the educational process. These universities are equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories and workshops, adopt global educational systems, and offer modern interdisciplinary programs that prepare students for local and international labor market demands. Additionally, efforts are underway to integrate these universities into regional alliances and foster cooperation with academic, research, and industrial institutions under the Presidential “Alliance and Development” Initiative, in line with the goals of the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research. He praises the significant student interest in enrolling in private universities, reflecting the confidence of students and parents in these institutions.
He further notes that the establishment of national universities has helped accommodate the continuous increase in student numbers in higher education. These universities do not aim to generate profit but reinvest surplus student fees, after operational costs, into updating laboratories and workshops, developing infrastructure, and conducting necessary maintenance, while also contributing to the development of new urban communities.
