GENDER EQUALITY PLAN (GEP)
Kafrelsheikh University - KU
Period: 2026 - 2028
1. PUBLIC COMMITMENT
Kafrelsheikh University is committed to promoting gender equality, diversity, and inclusion in all academic, research, and administrative activities. We ensure equal opportunities for all staff and students regardless of gender, in line with Egyptian Constitution Article 11 and EU Horizon Europe requirements.
2. GENDER EQUALITY OBJECTIVES & ACTIONS
1. Work-life balance
Support staff with family responsibilities Provide flexible working hours, maternity/paternity leave as per Egyptian labor law. Establish a daycare support info point. HR Department Ongoing
2. Gender balance in leadership
Increase representation of women in decision-making Set target of 30% women in faculty councils and committees by 2028. Ensure equal opportunity in recruitment for leadership positions. VP for Education 2026-2028
3. Gender equality in research
Integrate gender dimension in research Organize annual training on "Gender in Research & Innovation". Encourage research proposals to address gender aspects. Research Sector Annually
4. Anti-harassment & safety
Zero tolerance for gender-based violence Adopt and publish Anti-Harassment Policy. Appoint a contact person in each faculty. Conduct awareness workshops. Legal Affairs + Student Affairs 2026
3. DATA COLLECTION & MONITORING
KU will collect and publish annual sex-disaggregated data on:
- Number of academic staff by rank and gender
- Number of students by faculty and gender
- Number of participants in leadership positions by gender
Data will be published on KU website and reviewed annually by the GEP Committee.
4. TRAINING & CAPACITY BUILDING
KU will provide yearly training for staff on:
- Unconscious bias in recruitment and promotion
- Gender dimension in research content
- Prevention of sexual harassment
5. IMPLEMENTATION & GOVERNANCE
A *GEP Committee* is established under the Vice President for Graduate Studies & Research.
The GEP will be reviewed and updated every 2 years.
