In a new scientific achievement that reflects the advanced standing of Kafrelsheikh University on the map of international scientific research, a team of house officers from the Faculty of Medicine has successfully published a distinguished international scientific paper in the journal European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology, published by Springer Nature and ranked among the world’s top scientific journals (Q1), after more than two years of continuous research work through the Journal Club program launched during the house officers’ training period.
The research is titled:
“Cochlear implantation in deafblind patients: a systematic review and meta-analysis”
It addresses one of the most complex medical issues: evaluating the outcomes of cochlear implantation in patients with both hearing and vision loss, through a systematic review and comprehensive statistical analysis of global studies. The paper provides important scientific evidence supporting the effectiveness of cochlear implantation in improving communication ability and quality of life for this group of patients.
Prof. Yahya Zakaria Eid, President of the University, affirms that this achievement embodies the university’s philosophy of shaping the researcher before the physician, and its keenness to integrate its students and young doctors into the scientific research system from the early stages of training, in line with the objectives of the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research and Egypt’s Vision 2030.
The President adds that publishing a scientific paper in a prestigious international journal ranked Q1 and issued by Springer Nature represents an international certificate of the quality of the academic and research environment within the Faculty of Medicine. It also confirms the ability of Kafrelsheikh University’s sons and daughters to compete in the most prestigious global scientific forums. He points out that granting the house officers the position of first author reflects the university’s genuine belief in empowering young researchers and giving them the full opportunity for creativity and excellence.
For his part, Prof. Taha Ismail, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the University Hospitals, affirms that this achievement reflects the significant development the faculty is witnessing in the field of scientific research. It also confirms the success of the Journal Club program in preparing physicians who possess the tools of research, analysis, and international publication—not only clinical skills.
He adds that the research took more than two years of serious work and scientific collaboration, resulting in the publication of a high-level study in one of the most important international journals specialized in otorhinolaryngology. This reflects the quality of academic supervision, the spirit of teamwork, and the scientific commitment of the house officers. He confirms that the faculty will continue to provide an educational and research environment that supports innovation and produces medical cadres capable of representing Kafrelsheikh University on major global scientific platforms.
