The President participates in Supreme Council of Universities Meeting Chaired by Minister of Higher Education at Luxor University

Prof. Ismail Ismail Ibrahim, Acting President of the University, participates in the periodic meeting of the Supreme Council of Universities, chaired by Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The meeting is held at Luxor National University, in the presence of Dr. Mostafa Refaat, Secretary of the Council, and the esteemed members of the Council.

During the meeting, the Minister of Higher Education commends the significant efforts exerted by university leaderships, staff members, assistant staff, and administrative bodies during the end-of-first-semester exams period for the academic year 2025/2026. He appreciates the level of discipline and organization achieved across various Egyptian universities.

The Minister also praises the achievements of Egyptian universities in international rankings, foremost among them the inclusion of 83 Egyptian educational institutions in the Webometrics global ranking (January 2026 edition). Additionally, Egyptian universities feature prominently in most disciplines covered by the Times Higher Education subject rankings, reflecting the development of the higher education and scientific research system in Egypt.

Dr. Ayman Ashour confirms the importance of universities continuing to organize student visits to the Cairo International Book Fair, as it is one of the key cultural platforms that allows students to explore diverse sources of knowledge. It contributes to enhancing awareness of intellectual and national issues and building the character of university students capable of critical thinking, analysis, and positive participation in society.

Furthermore, the Minister underscores the importance of strengthening the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem within universities, activating the role of research centers and innovation incubators, encouraging scientific publishing in prestigious international journals, and linking scientific research to the objectives of sustainable development—in line with Egypt's Vision 2030 and the National Strategy for Sustainable Innovation.The Council reviews a report on the most prominent activities of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research during January. These include the launch of the national initiative to support outstanding students at Egyptian universities, entitled "Future Scientists Scholarship," the opening of several new university hospitals—bringing the total number of university hospitals across the Republic to 146—as well as the signing of several strategic cooperation protocols in the fields of digital transformation, medical training, and cross-border education.

The meeting witnesses the signing of a cooperation protocol between Luxor University and Assiut University in the fields of education, scientific research, and postgraduate studies. The Council also listens to a presentation on the services provided by the Egyptian Knowledge Bank to support scientific publishing and the development of the educational process.

 

Additionally, the Council follows up the work of several specialized committees concerning media promotion of Egyptian universities, enhancing cybersecurity, preparing studies for land allocation for research purposes, as well as the competition for the best universities according to the axes of the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research.
