The Faculty of Fisheries organizes a symposium entitled "Natural Disasters and Climate Change and Their Impact on Lake Fisheries"

Dr. Abdelrazek Desouky, President of the University, receives Dr. Salah El-Din Moslehi, Head of lakes and Fish Resources Protection and Development Agency at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers; Dr. Mohammed Hassan, Executive Director of Crisis, disaster and risk reduction management sector at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, and Representative Noha Al-Sharif, Member of the Senate and Member of the Financial, Economic and Investment Affairs Committee The meeting takes place after the completion of the symposium of the Faculty of Fisheries entitled "Natural Disasters and Climate Change and Their Impact on Lake Fisheries”, in the presence of Dr. Mohammed Abd El-Aal, Vice President for Education and Students’ Affairs, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Hawari, Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries, and staff members.

During the symposium, Dr. Ibrahim El-Hawary, Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries, says that today's symposium is held within the framework of implementing the National Climate Change Strategy 2050, which requires the participation of all beneficiaries, including Egyptian universities, with the aim of raising awareness about climate action and working to adapt to the negative effects of climate change through scientific research, therefore, work must be done to include climate change and its effects as one of the research directions of the faculty in the executive plan of its research plan, and to add awareness activities to raise awareness about climate action in the activities of the executive plan for community service and environmental development.

In her speech, the Representative Noha Al-Sharif said that the fisheries sector is at the forefront of the sectors affected by climate change in terms of the volume of production as a result of its negative effects on biodiversity in the aquatic environment, especially the natural food for fish, the high water temperature, the lack of dissolved oxygen, and other things with water factors that affect the reproduction, growth and life of fish, in addition to its effect on carriers of diseases, which leads to a change in the epidemiological map of diseases and the emergence of new diseases.

For his part, Dr. Mohamed Hassan Felfel reviews the impact of climate change on the Egyptian coasts and fisheries, "the state's plan to confront it" to preserve the projects that have been accomplished, in addition to reviewing various topics in the field of marine sciences and fisheries, the impact of climate change on coastal development, and special programs for the protection of the marine environment.

 

Dr. Salah El-Din Moselhy, Head of lakes and Fish Resources Protection and Development Agency, gives a presentation on the impact of climate change on fisheries in Egypt, stressing that Egypt is currently witnessing a boom in farming and developing fisheries, and this is evident in fish farm projects and the development of Egyptian lakes, stressing that there are many new fish projects are being worked on, whether in fresh or salty farming, to raise fish production in Egypt, in addition to introducing a mechanism to adapt to the harmful effects of climate change on fish farming to protect fish wealth.
