Definition of The Construction & Building Engineering Program

Construction and Building Engineering is a new program in the Faculty of Engineering, Kafrelsheikh University, which was created due to the labor market needs for an engineer familiar with the architectural and construction aspects as well as project management.

The stages of any project start with the idea and it is presented by the project owner, first, he goes to an architect (a graduate of the Department of Architecture) to adopt his idea and transform it by drawing and architectural planning into a realistic and executable form drawn by the various drawing programs and taking into account all the scientific architectural specifications in the external and internal form.

Then comes the role of the structural engineer (a graduate of civil engineering - construction) to design the structural drawings set by the architect’s colleague in order to convert the drawing into detailed drawings that contain all the construction details, dimensions of the sectors, quantities of rebar and the various materials needed for construction.

After that comes the implementation phase on the ground, and this is the role of the implementation engineer (a graduate of civil engineering department) who takes the detailed drawings and starts implementing them on the ground. You need a manager to manage these material and human resources to complete the project at the lowest cost, the least time and the highest quality. The manager is a project management engineer (a graduate of civil engineering department - project management).

In the construction and building engineering program, you will be qualified to be a graduate with the previous specifications through only one program. So that the architectural and planning parts of the architecture department are studied to serve the field of construction and building engineering, and from the civil department, only what serves the field of construction, building and project management are studied. In addition to studying in distinctive modern places equipped with the required laboratories and keeping pace with the times.

Construction and building engineers are problem solvers. They contribute to creating the infrastructure that best meets the specific requirements of the work environment. Be able to understand the life cycles of infrastructure. When comparing and contrasting them with design engineers, construction engineers have unique perspectives on solving technical problems with clarity and creativity. With a solid understanding of mathematics, science, and engineering in the field of construction, they will gain many other skills through their studies, including critical and analytical thinking, the art of time management, good communication skills, and people and resource management skills.

The previous can be summarized in the following set of objectives of the construction and building engineering program: -

  - Providing the graduate with the necessary foundations in the fields of mathematics and related sciences.

   -  Providing the necessary information on how to creatively manage resources based on analysis and interpretation

   - Responding to contemporary technological changes by providing the necessary knowledge and skills

  - Qualifying graduates to plan and implement scientific research in the field and to evaluate and draw its results

  - Controlling the impact of construction engineering on society from the environmental, economic, social and cultural point of view

  - Educating graduates about the role and responsibilities of a professional engineer and his commitment to professional ethics
