On 7/11/1990, the Supreme Council of Universities approved the establishment of a branch of the University of Tanta at Kafrelsheikh. The branch began accepting new students from the Coordination Office as of the academic year 1995/1996. On the basis of Presidential Decree No. 129 of 2006, the branch of Kafrelsheikh transformed into an independent university.
