Within the framework of the university's keenness to disseminate correct religious awareness and promote values of moderation and centrism, a seminar titled "Intellectual Extremism and the Tolerance of Islam" was organized under the auspices of Dr. Yahya Eid, president of the university, and Dr. Amani Mohamed Shaker, vice president of the university for community service and environmental development affairs. The seminar was lectured by His Eminence Sheikh Hani Mohamed Ibrahim and His Eminence Sheikh Abdel Aziz Shaaban Abdel Tawab, where they provided a comprehensive explanation of the seminar's topic and answered attendees' inquiries, affirming the importance of disseminating enlightened moderate thought to confront extremist ideas and aiming to raise youth awareness of the dangers of intellectual extremism, correct misconceptions, and emphasize the tolerance of the true Islamic religion, which calls for tolerance, coexistence, and rejection of violence and excess.
The seminar addressed several important axes, including addressing intellectual extremism in light of the Book of God and the Sunnah of His Messenger, where it was affirmed that the tolerant teachings of Islam represent a clear methodology in confronting extremist ideas and correcting misconceptions. The seminar also addressed intellectual extremism throughout the ages, clarifying that the phenomenon of excess and extremism is not new but rather appeared in different periods of history and was always confronted with correct thought and sound knowledge.
The seminar also reviewed methods and approaches for addressing intellectual extremism through enhancing correct religious awareness, disseminating the culture of dialogue, and consolidating values of tolerance and moderation within society.
