The Community Service and Environmental Development Sector at Kafrelsheikh University organized an awareness seminar titled "The Danger of Drugs and the Role of Youth in Confrontation" at the College of Artificial Intelligence at the university, aiming to raise awareness among students about the risks of drug abuse and its health, psychological, and social impacts, and to correct misconceptions related to addiction. The seminar was held in collaboration with the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Abuse as part of activating the protocol signed between the two parties and implementing the environmental affairs sector's plan for the 2025/2026 academic year.
The seminar was held under the patronage of Dr. Yahya Eid, President of Kafrelsheikh University; Dr. Amani Shaker, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs; Dr. Amr Osman, Director of the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Abuse in Kafrelsheikh; the supervision of Dr. Tamer Medhat, Dean of the College of Artificial Intelligence; and the presentation by Dr. Salam Al-Arabi, Director of the Anti-Drug Unit in Kafrelsheikh.
Dr. Yahya Eid, President of Kafrelsheikh University, affirmed that the university attaches great importance to implementing awareness programs targeting students to confront the addiction phenomenon, explaining that these seminars come in light of the national plan to combat drug abuse adopted by the state to protect citizens' health and preserve their capabilities. He pointed out that addiction is one of the most dangerous destructive factors for human resources, due to the psychological, health, and economic damages it causes that affect work and production, emphasizing the importance of societal efforts' unity to limit this phenomenon.
For her part, Dr. Amani Shaker affirmed the university's keenness to enhance community awareness through implementing educational and awareness programs targeting students, praising the continuous and fruitful cooperation between the university and the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Abuse within the framework of supporting national efforts to confront the danger of drug abuse.
The seminar addressed several important axes, including defining substances affecting mental health, the harms of drugs on the individual, family, and society, the role of youth in confronting the drug problem, the Egyptian state's efforts in combating addiction, early detection of addiction disease, mechanisms for dealing with the addicted patient, and the impact of drugs on societal progress and state-building, as representatives of the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction reviewed the therapeutic role provided by the Fund through the hotline 16023, which provides treatment services with complete confidentiality and for free.
