A journey toward the future: Kafrelsheikh University president returns from Spain with a map of international partnerships that will take the university global. Kafrelsheikh University is advancing a major internationalization push after its president, Dr. Yahya Zakaria Eid, completed a wide-ranging scientific visit to Spain aimed at expanding the university’s global partnerships and raising its international profile. The trip is presented as the largest international initiative in the university’s history and a turning point in its strategy to become a global academic player.
During the visit, the university president held meetings with several prominent Spanish universities, including Valencia Polytechnic University, the University of Valencia, the University of Alcalá, Pablo de Olavide University, and Complutense University of Madrid. The discussions covered a broad set of fields, such as medicine, artificial intelligence, engineering, agriculture, languages, translation, communication, innovation, entrepreneurship, healthcare, nursing, and university hospital management. The overall goal was to create long-term academic, research, and innovation partnerships.
Among the key outcomes were agreements to expand student and faculty exchange, increase participation in Erasmus and Horizon Europe programs, and create joint academic degrees at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. The two sides also agreed to establish an international scientific school at Kafrelsheikh University and to create an Innovation and Technology Valley in cooperation with Valencia Polytechnic University, with the aim of turning research into economic and development value.
The visit also strengthened ties in research support and institutional collaboration. Kafrelsheikh University researchers in Spain were followed up during the trip, and meetings were held to discuss technical support for international grant applications and greater participation in European Union projects. A meeting with Egypt’s consul general in Madrid also highlighted the role of higher-education internationalization in supporting Egypt’s soft power and its global academic presence.
Spanish institutions praised Kafrelsheikh University as a strong academic and research partner. Overall, the visit positions the university as a more outward-looking institution determined to build sustainable global alliances, improve education and research quality, and prepare graduates for international competitiveness.
