Kafrelsheikh University Leads Egyptian Universities in Times Higher Education World Ranking and Achieves Global Progress
Kafrelsheikh University has achieved a new scientific milestone added to its record of distinguished accomplishments by ranking first among Egyptian universities and placing in the 601–800 band globally in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings (WUR) 2026. This prestigious and rigorous international ranking assesses universities worldwide across key areas of education and scientific research performance.
Dr. Ismail Ismail Ibrahim, Acting President of Kafrelsheikh University, announced that this new achievement crowns the university’s ongoing efforts to enhance education, scientific research, and institutional performance in accordance with international standards. He emphasized that the remarkable progress made by the university is the result of continuous improvement in research quality, international publication, and citation rates, as well as the expansion of international cooperation with academic and industrial institutions both in Egypt and abroad.
The Acting President explained that the Times Higher Education (THE) ranking system evaluates universities based on five main pillars: Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, International Outlook, and Industry Income. Kafrelsheikh University has advanced in all areas compared to last year, achieving 28.7% in Teaching, 9.6% in Research Environment, 76.9% in Research Quality (including research productivity, income, and reputation), 53.1% in International Outlook (including international students, staff, and collaborations), and 21.6% in Industry Income (Knowledge Transfer). These results are derived from 13 performance indicators linked to teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international surveys, providing the most comprehensive and balanced global comparisons among universities.
Dr. Ismail Ismail Ibrahim added that this outstanding performance reflects the vision of the Egyptian state and its political leadership in supporting higher education and scientific research. He affirmed that the achievements of Egyptian universities in international rankings — particularly those of Kafrelsheikh University — are the fruit of ambitious national strategies aimed at enhancing education quality, advancing research, and positioning Egyptian universities among the world’s leading institutions.
The Acting President also extended sincere thanks and appreciation to the university’s faculty members, researchers, and administrative staff for their dedication and significant contributions to this success. He praised their continuous efforts to improve academic and research performance, serve the community, and promote environmental development, stressing that this collective success embodies the spirit of teamwork within the university and confirms that Kafrelsheikh University is steadily moving toward excellence and leadership locally, regionally, and globally.
Meanwhile, Dr. Hassan Younis, Supervisor of Kafrelsheikh University’s Ranking Unit, noted that the university has successfully strengthened its research position by increasing the number of publications in high-impact journals and boosting citation and reference rates internationally — factors that have positively influenced the university’s standing in global rankings.
