Our Services

The units of Cardiothoracic Surgery Department offer the following services for in and out-patients:

 

·       All types of cardiac and thoracic surgeries

·       Minimally invasive cardiac surgeries

·       VATS and bronchoscopy

·       Managing chest trauma

·       Educational programs for undergraduates, master and MD students.

 

Professional Information

a.  To familiarize the students with  cardiac  surgery and relate this knowledge to aid in their clinical practice.

b.  Be familiar with  concepts of  cardiac surgical skills.

c.  To familiarize the students with different  cardiac  pathologies.

d.  To provide an educational environment that promotes the standard delivery of cardio-thoracic surgical health care.

 

Intended learning outcomes (ILOs):

a. Knowledge and understanding:

1 Define the principles of cardiac  transplantation  surgery, heart lung transplantation,  surgery for arrhythmia and emergencies in cardiac surgery.

 

2 Describe basic knowledge about safe cardiac surgical environment. 

 

b. Intellectual skills:

a)    Understand basic scientific knowledge of different cardiac surgical pathologies and emergencies.

b)    Select relevant investigations logically and conservatively, and interpreting their results accurately.

 

c. Professional and practical skills :

a)  Perform under senior assistance some surgical, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and simple cardiac  surgical procedures.

b)   Implement the professional ethical attitude with patient and their relatives.

c)  Interpret clinical findings, laboratory results and imaging analysis to formulate proper differential diagnosis.

 

d. General and transferable skills:

  1. Appreciate the importance of life-long learning
  2. Use the sources of biomedical information to remain updated
  3. Form a question, search the literature, collect, analyze, critically appraise and utilize the obtained information to solve a practical clinical problem according to the principles of Evidence Based Medicine.
  4. Express themselves freely and adequately by improving their descriptive capabilities and enhancing their communication skills.
