The President participates in the Launch of the “National Policy for Sustainable Innovation”

 Prof. Dr. Abdelrazek Desouky, President of the University, participates in the launch of the “National Policy for Sustainable Innovation” as a strategic framework aimed at transforming Egypt into an innovative and sustainable knowledge society, within the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research, under the patronage of Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, within the strategic directions of the Egyptian state towards supporting innovation and entrepreneurship and linking scientific research to productive sectors, in accordance with the directives of the President Abd El -Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic.

Prof. Dr. Abdelrazek Desouky, President of the University, explains that Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, confirms, during a dialogue session organized by the Ministry, in the presence of a group of universities’ presidents, research centers, ministry leaders, and representatives of the government, business and industry sectors, that enhancing the role of innovation is at the top of the priorities of the current stage, in line with the state’s interest in maximizing the role of universities in developing the economy, providing a stimulating climate for knowledge production and enhancing scientific research, and increasing cooperation among universities, the industry and business community, which contributes to supporting the state’s competitiveness regionally and globally, and benefiting from scientific research in facing economic challenges and achieving sustainable development, explaining that the world today is divided between users of knowledge, and we seek with this new policy to produce and export knowledge, and to become a regional center for innovation and creativity, investing in the human capabilities that Egypt possesses of creators and innovators.

Dr. Ayman Ashour points out that the launch of this policy is to implement one of the principles of the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research, which is the principle of "Innovation and Entrepreneurship", as well as implementing the presidential initiative "Alliance and Development", appreciating the efforts of the attendees from representatives of academy, industry, business sector and government, who are partners in implementing the initiative, and thanks them for their contribution to all steps of implementing the strategy and the "Alliance and Development" initiative, and the tangible successful steps that resulted from it, confirming the commitment of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to implement this policy in cooperation with all partners, in order to achieve sustainable development and enhance Egypt's position in the fields of innovation and scientific research at the global level.

The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research explains that the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has an integrated system to support innovation, including universities, research centers, and specialized councils. Within the framework of implementing the national policy for sustainable innovation, a high-level committee is formed, including representatives from various governmental, industrial, and investment sectors, universities, and research centers. The committee works on collecting and analyzing data and legislation related to innovation and scientific research, reviewing leading international and Arab experiences in this field, in addition to identifying strengths and weaknesses in the national innovation system, and formulating the national policy document for sustainable innovation, in a way that achieves integration with Egypt's development goals.

The general framework of the policy seeks to achieve several strategic directions, including: developing the higher education system, developing human research resources, preparing the national business environment to stimulate innovation, enhancing the contribution of innovation to development, and achieving integration between scientific research, industry, and investment.

 

The National Policy for Sustainable Innovation also includes a set of sub-policies, programs, and initiatives based on four main themes: including talent, transferring technology, providing funding, and improving the work environment, in addition to three main themes: building research and development capabilities, eliminating the gap between research and development and innovation, and building innovation capabilities.
