It is worth noting that the Shanghai Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) is one of the most prominent global rankings that measures university performance in specific disciplines based entirely on objective data, without any surveys or human opinions.
The 2025 edition of the ranking includes approximately 57 disciplines, encompassing more than 20,000 subject units represented by over 2,000 universities from around 92 countries worldwide, making it a significant international benchmark for assessing research excellence across disciplines.
The ranking is based on nine indicators distributed across five main categories: the quality of world-class faculty, high-quality research output, publication quality, research impact, and international collaboration. Its methodology relies on global databases such as Web of Science and InCites, with a minimum publication requirement for any university to be included in each discipline.
