Research

My research program has several areas of focus. Recently, for example I have been focusing on control of insect vectors with special emphasis on mosquitoes and the examination of different patterns in their control. Currently, however, I am interested in understanding:

- Ionic liquid applications, as ecofriendly and effective alternatives to control different insect pests (e.g. public health pests, vector-borne diseases & veterinary insects ... etc.)

- Enhancing the role of bio- control agents in organic, smart and sustainable agriculture and how to maximize their potential.

- Endosymbiotic bacteria in Insects: understanding their role and how to utilize it in insect control.

- Using the Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Integrated Pest Management, and maximizing its role in smart & sustainable agriculture.

- The spotted wing drosophila Drosophila suzukii, is a new invasive species to Egypt, focusing on the current situation in terms of its prevalence, host range, in relation with global warming and its possible native natural enemies.

- Forensic insects as important tool in criminal investigations.

Research

My research focuses on interactions between plants, phytophagous insects and natural enemies of these insects. I am interested in both the biological elements of these interactions as well as their prospective uses in the field to develop appropriate and sustainable control methods for crop pests. Determine the ecological and molecular mechanisms that underpin key adaptive features in phytophagous insects and their natural enemies. Evaluate and analyze the impact of agricultural practices on insect populations and communities in agro-ecosystem. Propose long-term pest management and biological control solutions.
